On Tuesday, August 5, the city of Ipameri, Goiás, was shaken by a heartbreaking tragedy. A school van overturned on a rural road near Mata do Calixto, about 35 kilometers from the main highway. The accident claimed the life of 9-year-old Celina Victoria Frões Muniz Goes.
According to Police Chief Diogo Ferreira, the van was operated by an independent rural school transport provider. In response, Ipameri City Hall issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and declared three days of mourning in Celina’s honor.
Classes were suspended at Nossa Senhora de Fátima Municipal School, where Celina was a student. Teachers and the Secretary of Education attended both the wake and burial, held in Caldas Novas, to support the grieving family and pay their respects.
