People believe they’ve spotted key detail in the eyes of Nancy Guthries kidnapping suspect

Since the FBI released chilling new surveillance images tied to the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, many online have focused on one detail they believe could be key — the suspect’s eyes.
The newly recovered photos show a masked, armed figure outside the 84-year-old’s Tucson, Arizona home in the early morning hours of her disappearance. With the search now entering its 11th day, the images mark the first major public breakthrough in the case and may offer investigators their strongest visual clues yet.
In the footage shared by FBI Director Kash Patel, the individual appears to be tampering with Nancy Guthrie’s video doorbell camera while dressed in a balaclava, gloves, a zipped jacket, and a backpack. Authorities believe the suspect may have deliberately removed or damaged recording devices during the abduction.
Nancy Guthrie has now been missing for more than 10 days. Two ransom deadlines demanding $6 million in bitcoin have reportedly passed, though the ransom note did not include a clear threat about what would happen if payment was not made.
When announcing the release of the images, Patel explained that the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department worked with private sector partners to recover footage that had been “lost, corrupted, or inaccessible.” The video was reportedly restored using residual data stored in backend systems.
Almost immediately, social media users began analyzing the suspect’s visible eye area — the only exposed feature between the mask and hood. Some commenters suggested the eyebrow shape and eye structure could indicate the person may not be male.
“Arched eyebrows. I would say female,” one user wrote. Another added, “Eyes look like a woman’s eyes to me.” A third asked bluntly: “Sure that’s not a woman?”
Others disagreed, pointing to the suspect’s gait and posture in the accompanying footage, arguing it appeared more masculine. Some even speculated about the outline of facial hair beneath the mask. However, investigators have not confirmed the suspect’s gender or identity.
A former FBI agent also weighed in, suggesting the suspect’s handling of the firearm and the camera appeared awkward and inexperienced.
“This is a very non-conventional way to carry a firearm,” former agent Mark Harrigan told the New York Post. He noted the weapon appeared to be holstered in the front, which is unusual for someone familiar with carrying a gun regularly.
Harrigan suggested the suspect may not normally be armed and may have moved the weapon from a backpack to the waist only when approaching the door.
Meanwhile, authorities briefly detained and questioned one individual earlier this week. A man identified as Carlos told reporters he was pulled over after noticing police following his vehicle. He said he may have delivered a package to the area but denied any involvement in the kidnapping.
“I never kidnapped anybody,” Carlos said after being released. “They held me from 4:00 p.m. until now.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials continue urging the public to report any tips that could help bring Nancy Guthrie home safely.
