Bullfighter Morante de la Puebla Seriously Injured in Arena Incident

Bullfighter Morante de la Puebla is facing a long and painful recovery after a shocking incident in the ring left him seriously injured. The 46-year-old matador, often called the “King of Bullfighters,” was gored during a performance at Seville’s Maestranza arena in Spain, an accident that quickly turned into a medical emergency.

Speaking from his hospital bed, he described the terrifying moments after the attack. He recalled being in intense pain and feeling a wave of fear when he realized the bull had struck him. In those first seconds, he believed he was bleeding heavily and feared the worst outcome.

The incident unfolded suddenly. After successfully facing three bulls, he was caught off guard when the next one charged without warning. He dropped his cape and tried to escape, but the brief moment of hesitation left him exposed. The bull hit him, and fellow matadors rushed in to carry him out of the arena before he was taken into surgery.

At first, the situation seemed far more serious. But once he reached the infirmary, he realized the bleeding was not as severe as he had feared, bringing a brief sense of relief even as the pain continued. He later described it as the most painful injury of his career.

Recovery has been extremely difficult. He reports constant pain, trouble sleeping, and a lack of appetite. For the first time, he is being fed through an IV catheter, showing just how serious the injury is.

Doctors say he will need significant time away from the ring, and his return remains uncertain.

The incident has also reignited debate in Spain about bullfighting, with supporters defending it as tradition while critics and animal rights groups point to the risks and renewed calls for it to be banned.
