Best known for his iconic role as Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Dean Cain is more than just a Hollywood actor — he’s a shining example of what it means to be a hands-on, dedicated father.
Before his acting career took off, Cain had dreams of becoming a professional football player. A knee injury in college cut that dream short, redirecting him to acting, where he quickly became a household name. But in the year 2000, life handed him a far more meaningful role: fatherhood.
Cain welcomed a baby boy named Christopher with his ex-girlfriend, former model Samantha Torres. He named his son after his adoptive father, filmmaker Christopher Cain — the man who raised him after his biological father walked out when Dean was just 2 years old. Cain later revealed, “I never knew him, never met him,” making it all the more important that he would never repeat that cycle.
Cain and Torres went through a lengthy and difficult custody battle. In 2011, the court awarded Cain sole custody of Christopher. From that moment forward, Cain made a conscious decision to put his career second and focus entirely on raising his son. He turned down major roles, skipped red carpets, and centered his entire life around being a present, loving father — the kind he never had.
