Conservative Backlash Grows After U.S., Israel Strike Iran

Military strikes conducted by Israel and the United States against Iran have revealed deep divisions within President Donald Trump’s political base, as several prominent conservative figures publicly criticized the operation.

The joint assault, launched Feb. 28, targeted sites in Tehran and other strategic areas. Iranian state media reported that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes, though independent confirmation has been limited.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump characterized the campaign as highly successful.

“It’s moving along rapidly. This has been this way for 47 years,” Trump said. “Nobody can believe the success we’re having — 48 leaders are gone in one shot.”

Iran Retaliates; U.S. Casualties Reported

Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on U.S. military installations across the Gulf region, including bases near Bahrain, Qatar, and Dubai.

According to United States Central Command, three U.S. service members were killed and five others seriously wounded. Officials indicated that combat operations remain ongoing.

Conservative Figures Break With Trump

The strikes prompted an unusually visible split among conservatives who have typically backed Trump’s foreign policy.

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson condemned the strikes as “absolutely disgusting and evil” during an interview with journalist Jonathan Karl. Carlson said he had personally urged Trump during a recent Oval Office meeting not to authorize military action.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene also criticized continued U.S. involvement overseas, arguing that Americans are exhausted by prolonged foreign conflicts.

“Thousands and thousands of Americans from my generation have been killed and injured in never-ending pointless foreign wars and we said no more,” Greene said in a statement, questioning the justification for action against Iran.

Sen. Rand Paul raised constitutional concerns, arguing that military action without congressional authorization erodes the separation of powers.

“The Constitution conferred the power to declare or initiate war to Congress for a reason, to make war less likely,” Paul said, adding that while he supports protecting U.S. troops, he opposes what he described as another “Presidential war.”

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire cautioned against portraying the conflict as a humanitarian mission.

“As Americans, the freedom of Iranians is not our responsibility,” Walsh said. “If a single American life is lost in the service of that goal, it will be a travesty.”

Trump Issues Warning

The latest action follows reported U.S. strikes last year on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, carried out shortly after Israeli operations targeted Iran’s military infrastructure.

On Sunday, Trump signaled that operations would continue.

“An Iranian regime armed with long-range missiles and nuclear weapons would be a dire threat to every American,” he said, urging members of Iran’s security forces to surrender. “Lay down your arms and receive full immunity or face certain death.”

As tensions intensify, the public dissent among key conservative figures highlights the political risks facing Trump as U.S. military involvement in the region expands.
