Officer Breaks Car Window to Rescue Baby – Turns Out It Was a Doll
On a hot summer day in Keene, New Hampshire, officer Jason Short rushed to a Walmart parking lot after receiving a 911 call about a baby locked inside a parked car. When he arrived, he saw what appeared to be a baby under a blanket, with small feet sticking out. Without hesitation, he broke the window to rescue the child.
He gently pulled the baby out and started CPR, fearing the worst. But something felt off. The skin was pale and cold, and there was no response. Moments later, someone pointed out the shocking truth. It wasn’t a baby. It was a lifelike doll.
The doll’s owner, Carolynne Seiffert, had left it in the car while she shopped. She explained that the doll, named Ainsley, is one of many she owns to help her cope with the loss of her son. Although embarrassed by the incident, she understood why the officer reacted the way he did.
Officer Short said he had no regrets. He would always assume it’s a real child in danger. The Keene Police Department even covered the cost of the broken window. This incident, though unusual, served as a powerful reminder that in an emergency, it’s always better to act than to hesitate.
