At least 148 people have been killed and 95 others injured

At least 148 people have been killed and 95 others wounded after a girls’ elementary school in Minab, in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province, was struck during a broader US-Israeli military operation on Saturday. Iranian authorities say the majority of the victims were pupils and that rescue efforts continue amid rising casualty figures.

The strike hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school, where around 170 students were reportedly present at the time, and occurred as part of a wider series of attacks by US and Israeli forces on multiple Iranian cities. Iranian officials have strongly condemned the incident and described it as a brutal act, while the US military says it is investigating reports of civilian harm.

Independent verification of casualty figures is limited amid the ongoing conflict, and different outlets have reported varying numbers, but state-affiliated Iranian agencies and prosecutors have cited the 148-dead toll that continues to climb.

The international reaction is still developing, with calls for investigations into civilian protection and rising concern over broader escalation following the strike.
